But I compared the relationship between Mr K and Emma to that of Edmund and Mary -- Mr K was always criticizing Emma and wanting to improve her. Fanny did not need to be criticized. Both Emma and Mary C were spoiled young women and had faults, but Mary C's faults were more serious "faults of Principle", while Emma, although over-indulged by her governess, was also taught good principles by her, so hers were not faults of principle. And of course, Mr K is much more mature than Edmund, who is rather naive. Edmund did realize that Mary C had faults, but underestimated its seriousness, and hope to be able to improve her.
