in consequence of the missive, Please Ditch Domino, Bernie Su, penned by Margaret C
Someone like Emma wouldn't be content with merely being a socialite. That seems more like what Mrs. Elton would like to do. Emma starts seriously meddling in people's lives after Miss Taylor's marriage, and starting a business to do that doesn't seem too much of a stretch as a modern equivalent. In fact, I can see how the "creepy" aspects of Domino could appeal to Emma's temperament. There were some unbelievable aspects to LBD (and the Jane Eyre vlog) as well. Unless they start filming it like a real TV show with out-of-universe cameras, these web-series will have some unrealistic aspects. Using "Domino" keeps Emma Approved from becoming a clone of LBD, where the main character vlogs about her life (sorry--her sister's love life...;-)).
The Domino platform was used poorly in WTS, but some of the stronger episodes proved that the concept can work if they focus on plot and character development. IMO, the main reason WTS suffered was because the creators were indulging in too much fan-pandering.
Has anyone seen Lisa Kudrow's Web Therapy? I suspect Emma Approved may have Emma video-conferencing with her clients using Domino. If they end up using fans as "clients" on a regular basis (except as a one-off maybe), it will turn off a large chuck of their viewers. Bernie's posts indicate that they have been paying attention to the negative feedback about WTS, so I'm somewhat hopeful. I guess, we'll wait and see...
